Privacy policy
Last updated 15 July 2026
This page explains what personal data ChoreCircle collects, why, and what rights you have over it. It is written to satisfy Article 13 of the GDPR — plainly, and without burying anything in boilerplate.
Who is responsible for your data
ChoreCircle is operated by Teppo Almgren, an individual based in Finland — not through a registered company. If that changes, this page will say so, and say so first.
For anything to do with your data — questions, requests, or a report of a problem — email tepia94@gmail.com. That is the one address for everything: support, privacy, and security.
What we collect
Depending on how you use ChoreCircle, we may hold:
- Account basics: name, email address, and authentication details (via our sign-in provider — we never see your password in plain text).
- Profile details you add: birth date, gender, city, a short bio, avatar photo, spoken languages, and skills.
- Location: a saved street address and coordinates, used to show your approximate area publicly and your exact address only to a helper you've selected.
- Chores and listings: anything you post, apply to, or list, including the budget or hourly rate you state and the payment type.
- Messages you send to other members through the app, and any images attached to them.
- A simple confirmation of whether a chore's payment was settled or disputed — never the amount that changed hands (see “The money stays yours” on our vision page).
- TrustLink connections between minors and the adults responsible for them, where that feature is used.
- Technical data needed to run the service: sign-in timestamps, and error/delivery logs for the emails we send you.
Why we collect it, and our legal basis
To run the service (contract)
Your profile, chores, listings, messages, and location are processed because they are the service — matching neighbours and letting you coordinate. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you.
To keep the platform safe (legitimate interest)
Report/moderation records, sign-in logs, and abuse-prevention checks are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping members — including minors — safe, weighed against your privacy.
Newsletter (consent)
If you opt in, we email occasional updates. This is off by default and based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in any such email.
Testimonials (consent)
If you opt in and choose to have a testimonial published, we do so on the basis of your explicit consent, with the attribution choice you make.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. A small number of processors run the infrastructure ChoreCircle is built on:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider.
- Resend — sends transactional email (confirmations, notifications) on our behalf.
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, and for the fonts/font-loading on our pages.
- Mapbox — renders map tiles when you view the nearby-chores map; your approximate location and the map view are sent to Mapbox to do this.
- Our hosting provider — serves the website itself.
International transfers
Some of the processors above (notably Google and Mapbox) are US-based. Where your data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, it happens under that provider's standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguard, as required by GDPR Chapter V.
How long we keep it
- Active accounts: kept for as long as you use ChoreCircle.
- Inactivity: if you don't sign in for about three years, we email a warning and delete the account (and its messages and images) 30 days later unless you sign back in.
- Self-service deletion: deleting your account from the account page starts a 7-day grace period — plenty of time to change your mind — after which it is permanently removed.
- Email delivery logs are kept only as long as needed to troubleshoot delivery problems and prevent abuse of the mail system.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and you can object to or ask us to restrict certain processing. Most of this you can already do yourself:
- Edit your profile, chores, listings, and messages directly in the app.
- Delete your account yourself from the account page (self-service, 7-day grace period).
- Email tepia94@gmail.com for anything you can't do yourself, or to ask questions about this policy.
If you believe we've mishandled your data, you can also complain to Finland's data protection authority, the Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto (tietosuoja.fi).
Younger members
ChoreCircle is open to helpers as young as 15, with category-level age floors on the work itself. We show age brackets rather than exact ages to other users, and precise location is only ever shared with a helper you've selected. Where a minor helps with an indoor chore, our TrustLink feature is designed to keep a responsible adult connected to that arrangement.
Cookies and local storage
Signing in stores an authentication token in your browser's local storage — this is strictly necessary to keep you signed in and requires no consent banner under EU law. We do not run analytics trackers or advertising cookies.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, where the change is significant, let members know directly.
